State Bar eyes developing license for legal technicians

Next month, State Bar trustees are likely to conclude that the bar should "study the design of a pilot program" that could lead to allowing some trained people to give clients limited legal assistance without the supervision of lawyers.

Two years ago, the State Bar Board of Trustees concluded that licensing nonlawyers to help consumers with ordinary legal problems was an idea that needed further study.


Next month, the trustees are likely to reach the same conclusion, after months of little progress on the issue.
