Incentives for healthy habits could hurt
Wellness programs designed to steer employees away from doctors and toward preventative actions have struck a chord with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which claims the programs violate the Americans with Disabilities Act.




Swapping pizza for salad in lunch meetings, scheduling yoga classes and creating nap rooms are a few measures some employers have taken to support wellness in the workplace and keep overall health care costs low. Approximately half of U.S. employers, mostly large companies, partake in wellness programs, a $6 billion industry, according to a recent RAND Corp. report.
