Reversal of the family law judges for abuse of discretion is rare, but that's what the 4th District Court of Appeal recently did. The court issued a peremptory writ in the first instance because a family court judge changed custody to a noncustodial parent and required children to move in the middle of the school year from their California home to Alabama.
