Poverty Trap

The U.S. Census for 1990 reported that California has the highest number of single-parent, female-headed families in the United States and that those households comprise a radically disproportionate percentage of families living in poverty. The Census reported that nearly 50 percent of California's poor families were headed by a single parent, and more than 75 percent of those families were headed by women.
