Facebook loses bid to squelch privacy lawsuit

Facebook Inc. must face a lawsuit accusing it of scanning users' private messages for advertising purposes in violation of federal privacy laws, a judge has ruled.

Facebook Inc. must face a lawsuit accusing it of scanning users' private messages for advertising purposes in violation of federal privacy laws, a judge has ruled.


The social media company had argued that the alleged scanning was legal because it occurred during the "ordinary course of business," which is allowed under the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act.
