DirectTV's arbitration motion falls short

Appellate decision upholds ruling in class action on behalf of consumers who claim they were charged illegal cancellation fees.

An appellate court has rejected DirecTV Inc.'s motion to compel arbitration in a class action lawsuit alleging the satellite provider illegally charged customers up to $480 in early cancellation fees.

The class action was brought on behalf of more than 500,000 California-based DirecTV customers alleged to have been charged unlawfully between 2004 and 2010.
