MICRA reform ready to clear signature hurdle, supporters say

After months of drawing attention to the cause, plaintiffs' attorneys are staring down a high-stakes ballot fight to lift the state's cap on pain and suffering damages for medical malpractice victims.

SACRAMENTO - In addition to lobbying lawmakers, tort lawyers last year threatened they'd turn to voters to raise the cap on medical malpractice suit payouts.
