Pension reform ballot measure abandoned

San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed ends his attempt to allow mayors to cut some pensions after losing a petition in court over the wording of the measure.

San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed said Friday he would end his attempt to get a statewide pension reform measure on the November ballot after losing a petition in court to have Attorney General Kamala Harris' summary of the measure changed.


Reed took issue with the wording in Harris' description of the measure for voters, saying it introduced bias and inaccuracy.


But Judge Allen H. Sumner finalized a tentative ruling denying the challenge Friday.
