Senate Bill 794 would reduce peremptory challenges in misdemeanor trials from 10 to five per side. It was, in part, a response to the governor and the Legislature asking the courts for ways to save money. The proposal, sponsored by the California Judges Association, is pro juror and pro taxpayer.
