High-level former Obama administration officials are finding themselves at the center of an increasingly ferocious legal battle between the Department of Justice and Standard & Poor Financial Services LLC as the ratings agency tries to beat back allegations that it knowingly overrated a slew of mortgage-backed securities in advance of the 2008 financial crisis.
