High Court to Hear Challenge to Arbitration of Legal Fee Disputes

The California Supreme Court will hear two cases Thursday that will affect the ability of lawyers to collect fees for their work.

SAN FRANCISCO - The California Supreme Court will hear two cases Thursday that will affect the ability of lawyers to collect fees for their work.

At stake in one case is whether attorneys can force their clients to settle fee disputes through binding arbitration. The other case will determine whether lawyers who defend themselves against frivolous civil suits can receive attorneys' fees as a sanction.
