Prohibition: A Dry Run?

Seventy-five years ago, America ended its disastrous experiment with alcohol prohibition. Today, the country is still saddled with a similarly misguided effort: the war on drugs, writes Alex Coolman.

Seventy-five years ago today, Americans made a smart decision. On Dec. 5, 1933, the American states completed ratification of the 21st Amendment, thereby repealing the 18th Amendment and bringing an end to the unmitigated disaster that was alcohol prohibition. For citizens of the early 20th century, no less than for us today, it was an occasion worthy of a toast.
