Appeals Court Shelves Shell's Exploratory Drilling in Alaska

SAN FRANCISCO - A division of Shell Oil Co. saw its hopes to "drill, baby, drill" dampened on Thursday after an appeals court nixed its government-approved plan to explore for oil off the Alaskan coast.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Interior Department failed to look at the environmental impacts of the drilling before giving Shell the green light.
