Something Is Rotten in the Courts of Illinois

Forum Column - What happens when the chief justice of the Illinois Supreme Court sues a small newspaper for defamation in that state's courts? A big payday for the justice and a lot of bad rulings.

      One would hope that the chief justice of the Illinois Supreme Court would take one look at a recent $7 million defamation verdict handed down by a Kane County jury, realize the trial was an unfair and unconstitutional mess, and reverse it. Oh, wait. That won't happen - that chief justice was the plaintiff.
