High court won't hear state's prison appeal

In yet another blow to California's effort to lift federal oversight of state prisons, the U.S. Supreme Court has rejected the state's appeal of a court order requiring the officials reduce the prison population by thousands of inmates.

In yet another blow to California's effort to lift federal oversight of the state prison system, the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the state's appeal of a federal court order requiring officials to reduce the prison population by thousands of inmates.
