Would-be lawyer who fabricated stories gets chilly reception at high court

Justices seemed to agree with the State Bar that Stephen Glass, a former New Republic writer who published numerous falsehoods, should not be admitted to practice.

SACRAMENTO - Stephen Glass perpetuated one of the biggest frauds in journalism history, entirely or partially fabricating 42 articles as a young reporter in the late 1990s. Since then, he has graduated from Georgetown Law School, gone to extensive therapy, and received glowing recommendations from two judges for whom he worked and from the law firm where he has clerked for nine years.
