AG Nominee's Independence Seen as Post-Gonzales Tonic
After months of turmoil within the Justice Department, the legal community on Monday welcomed President Bush’s decision to nominate former New York federal Judge Michael B. Mukasey for attorney general. Those who have appeared before Mukasey during his 18 years on the bench in the Southern District of New York and those mixing in political circles in Washington, D.C., say they believe Mukasey has the right mix of integrity and independence to revive the embattled agency.
