Two Decades of Legal Wrangling

A San Francisco attorney continues to battle on behalf of two Nevada ranchers, racking up rulings that could have big implications nationwide for ranchers with permits to let cattle graze on government land.

It's been almost two decades since San Francisco attorney Lyman D. "Ladd" Bedford took on the case of a couple fighting the federal government over water rights for their cattle ranch in the central Nevada wilderness.

In that time, his clients have died. He's changed firms three times. The judge overseeing the action has gone from active to senior status.
