Judge Slams Manatt's Fee Request in NFL Case As 'Excessive' and 'Bloated'

A federal judge awarded lawyers from Manatt, Phelps & Phillips and McKool Smith about $6.5 million in fees and expenses as part of a settlement in a class-action lawsuit between retired football players and the NFL's labor union.

A federal judge has awarded lawyers from Manatt, Phelps & Phillips and McKool Smith $6.5 million in fees and expenses as part of a settlement in a class action between retired football players and the NFL's labor union, but also chided the attorneys for initially requesting an additional $2.6 million.
