In March 2014, Judge Lewis Kaplan of the Southern District of New York found Steven Donziger, lead counsel for the plaintiffs in an Ecuadorian lawsuit seeking damages against Chevron, engaged in bribery and corruption to obtain an $8.7 billion award in favor of his clients.
