Foreign Pact Takes Life Out of a Prison Term

If you flee to Venezuela after committing murder in the United States, your "life" sentence might be cut to 30 years. It happened Tuesday to Cristobal Rodriguez Benitez, thanks to a unanimous 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel that applied extradition treaty law to his appeal.

      If you flee to Venezuela after committing murder in the United States, your "life" sentence might be cut to 30 years.
      It happened Tuesday to Cristobal Rodriguez Benitez, thanks to a unanimous 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel that applied extradition treaty law to his appeal. Benitez v. Garcia, 2006 DJDAR 6272.
