New Law Makes Public Records Suits Less Costly

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law legislation last week that limits when public entities can recover attorney fees and costs when they successfully fight off lawsuits seeking to enforce the state's open meeting and records laws.

SACRAMENTO - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed into law legislation that limits when public entities can recover attorney fees and costs when they successfully fight off lawsuits seeking to enforce the state's open meeting and records laws.

Proponents said the measure was necessary because the prospect of having to pay sky-high attorney fees was deterring individuals from filing suit.
