9th Circuit Conference Kicks Off With Staged Controversy

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' annual judicial conference opened Monday with a curious, provocative on-stage dialogue between Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant.

MONTEREY - "I deem I may take extreme measures in time of war," said the nation's leader Monday night, citing his presidential oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.

The president in question wasn't Barack Obama or even George W. Bush. It was Abraham Lincoln, or at least the 16th president as played by 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Stephen S. Trott of Boise, Idaho.
