Lawyer Loses $238,000 in Fees

A federal appeals court ordered prominent southern California defense lawyer Jeffrey Benice to turn over $238,000 in attorney fees Monday that were traced to a client's Ponzi scheme.

A federal appeals court Monday ordered southern California defense lawyer Jeffrey Benice to turn over $238,000 in attorney fees that were traced to a client's Ponzi scheme.

In January 2005, Benice accepted a $375,000 flat-fee retainer to represent Charles V. Castro in a dispute with the Federal Trade Commission.
