“Women In Securities” group holds inaugural event

On Feb. 6, Women in Securities (WISe), a new network for women securities defense litigators, held its first event at Bingham McCutchen LLP’s San Francisco office. Bingham McCutchen partner Charlene Shimada, one of the group’s founding members, gave the opening remarks. “While women have made significant progress toward the ideal of full equality in many legal fields since I first started practicing over 30 years ago, this seems less true in securities litigation,” she said. “Women should be represented in far greater numbers in every asprect of securities litigation, including at the top.” WISe’s founding members were asked a few questions before discussion was turned over to smaller groups. The founding members are: Charlene Shimada, partner at Bingham McCutchen LLP; Sara Brody, partner at Sidley Austin LLP; Sarah Good, partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP; Meredith Landy, former partner at O’Melveny & Myers LLP; Nina Locker, partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati; Susan Muck, partner at Fenwick & West LLP; and Anna Erickson White, partner at Morrison & Foerster LLP. Nearly seventy attorneys attended from firms throughout the Bay area.
