The federal Environmental Protection Agency said Monday it will place new curbs on smog-forming nitrogen dioxide for the first time in 35 years.
The new standard is aimed at protecting the millions of people who live near busy traffic from concentrated exposure to the pollutant, which exacerbates asthma and heart disease and can lead to premature death.
