Black Inmate Allowed to Sue

A black inmate convicted of murder and serving a life sentence at High Desert State Prison can sue the warden for racial discrimination in security lockdowns, a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel held Tuesday.

SAN FRANCISCO - A black inmate convicted of murder and serving a life sentence at High Desert State Prison can sue the warden for racial discrimination in security lockdowns, a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel held Tuesday.

The opinion depicted a violent world behind bars but ruled that even there the Constitution affords equal protection and other civil rights guarantees.
