LOS ANGELES - An upstanding criminal defense attorney who turned his life around? Or a ne'er-do-well who couldn't leave his trouble with the law behind?

Federal prosecutors say Isaac E. Guillén, a Covina-based sole practitioner, is the latter, alleging in an gang indictment unsealed last week that he was a mule for the Mexican Mafia.
