Teachers Lose In Mailbox Politics Case

The California Supreme Court ruled against the state's powerful teachers' unions Thursday, saying they aren't entitled to use school district mailboxes to endorse political candidates.

The California Supreme Court ruled against the state's powerful teachers unions Thursday, saying teachers aren't entitled to use school district mailboxes to endorse political candidates.

The unanimous high court tempered its decision, however, by emphasizing that school boards may still allow the distribution of campaign literature through faculty mailboxes as long as it is done "on an equitable basis." ...
