Immigration Courts Drowning in New Cases

The nation's cash-strapped immigration courts are struggling to keep pace with a surge in new cases that resulted from ramped-up enforcement of existing laws, according to a new study.

The nation's cash-strapped immigration courts are struggling to keep pace with a surge in new cases that resulted from ramped-up enforcement of existing laws, according to a new study.

The report by Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, a Syracuse University-based think tank, found the backlog of cases awaiting disposal by immigration judges grew 19 percent between 2006 and 2009.
