Wins, Losses for Courts in Long-Awaited Budget

The Senate passed the long-delayed California budget Friday and the Assembly was expected to OK it before the end of the day. But the break in the logjam was bittersweet for the courts.

The long-delayed California budget the Senate passed, and the Assembly was expected to OK, on Friday remained bittersweet for the courts.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger threatened to veto the Legislature's spending plan, but instead forged a compromise Thursday with legislative leaders. He was expected to sign it early this week.
