Hatch Seeks Deal on Judicial Nominations

WASHINGTON - After a contentious Judiciary Committee meeting on whether the Senate should confirm Charles W. Pickering of Mississippi to the federal bench, Sen. Orrin Hatch huddled with advocates for liberal interest groups to implore them to compromise on President Bush's conservative judicial nominations.
