Follow the Leader
Where the stock market leads, the legal job market follows. As the stock market rose to record levels, law firm hiring followed suit. But, during times of a downswing or a volatile stock market, legal hiring slows. Law firms, chastened by the hard lessons learned during the economic downturn of the early 1990s, are being more conservative in their lateral hiring.
