Suit against local governments not limited to property taxpayers, court rules

The state Supreme Court ruled Monday that plaintiffs who do not own property can still sue local governments for illegally spending taxpayer money.

One need not be a real property owner to sue local governments for illegally spending taxpayer money, the state Supreme Court ruled Monday.

Experts said the decision expands the number of individuals who could bring taxpayer litigation against cities and counties.
