Bumble Bee Foods to pay $25M for fixing prices on shelf tuna

The U.S. Department of Justice filed its first charges against a corporation in its investigation into fraudulent practices in the packaged seafood industry Monday.

San Diego-based Bumble Bee Foods LLC will pay at least $25 million to settle federal criminal charges it inflated the price of canned and pouch tuna fish, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Monday.

The case, filed in San Francisco Monday, accused the packaged seafood giant of fixing prices of shelf-stable tuna fish from the first quarter of 2011 to the fourth quarter of 2013. U....
