As chief judge of the Northern District of California, James Ware ruled on numerous high profile cases: He upheld the decision striking down California's ban on same-sex marriage; ruled that Google Inc. may have broken federal wiretap rules when it captured data through its panoramic Street View map program; and overturned a jury's $147 million patent infringement verdict for lack of evidence.
