'Social host' may be liable for drinking party death, state high court rules

A party host planning to charge guests for alcohol may want to think twice about doing so, under a state Supreme Court decision issued Monday.

A party host planning to charge guests for alcohol may want to think twice following a state Supreme Court decision issued Monday.


The court said a party host who charges a fee - even a nominal one - can be held liable if an underage guest hurts someone as a result of drinking. But if the host gives away the alcohol, he can't be held legally responsible.
