Judge: Dollar Tree must face trial on narrow matter

A judge killed a defendant’s last chance to keep a jury from deciding a narrow matter: whether Dollar Tree is liable for not providing convenient enough access to store employees, who use direct deposit, to get their printed paychecks.

LOS ANGELES — A federal judge killed a defendant’s last chance to keep a jury from deciding a narrow matter: whether Dollar Tree is liable for not providing convenient enough access to store employees, who use direct deposit, to get their printed paychecks.

U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald on Monday denied Dollar Tree’s motion for judgment as a matter of law, stating, “There is sufficient basis for the trial to go forward.” ...
