Talent agencies have a variegated reputation. According to a recent article in Variety, they operate in the spotlight of public admiration as "hard-charging, Type-A personalities ... [who] exert intense competitive pressure" over their staff, leading to notoriety and success. They also suffer from public antipathy given the perception that men in this male-dominated profession foster "sexually charged working environment[s]" that are particularly harsh for women.
