A woman convicted of killing her grandson in 2009 was released from prison under a deal resulting from an investigation by Loyola Law School’s Project for the Innocent.

A woman convicted of killing her grandson in 2009 was released from prison under a deal resulting from an investigation by Loyola Law School's Project for the Innocent.

The Los Angeles County district attorney offered to vacate Maria Mendez's original conviction for assault on a child causing death in the midst of an evidentiary hearing last month before Superior Court Judge José I. Sandoval.
