The U.S. Department of Justice will review the consent decrees used to govern licensing rights for publicly performed musical works, it announced Wednesday.
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and Broadcast Music Inc. -- better known as ASCAP and BMI respectively -- have overseen the licensing rights for public performances for the last 75 years, empowered by consent decrees with the DOJ.
