Monsanto’s bid for new trial in weed killer case might succeed: legal expert

The judge who oversaw the trial of a couple arguing Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer causes cancer will have to walk a fine line to address a potentially faulty $2 billion jury award, a legal observer said Tuesday.

UC Hastings School of Law Professor David Levine said Monsanto would most likely succeed in substantially slashing the damages award and might even persuade the judge to overrule the verdict entirely.
