Three former lead paint makers will pay $305 million to 10 California cities and counties in a settlement announced Wednesday, ending nearly 20 years of precedent-setting litigation that reached the U.S. Supreme Court.
The deal will pump money into cleanup programs aimed at eliminating longstanding hazards while funding intervention services for children already poisoned by toxic lead.
