State Bar wants to split off part of Lawyers Assistance Program

The California Lawyers Association is willing to take on the initiative supporting attorneys with substance abuse and mental health challenges.

The State Bar wants to transfer a significant part of its Lawyer Assistance Program to the California Lawyers Association in hopes of boosting participation in the attorney wellness initiative.

The bar is eager to split off the voluntary portion of the program providing support for lawyers with substance abuse and mental health issues amid what agency leaders say has been chronic underutilization of the services offered.
