Arbitration agreement may be voided for late fee payments in bill sent to governor

SB 707 would do two very different things if it becomes law: one relating to arbitration contracts, the other to the diversity of the panels.

The California Legislature's battle against mandatory arbitration contracts continued Wednesday with the passage of a bill that would make significant changes to the industry in the state.

Assemblyman Rob Bonta, D-Alameda, called SB 707 "a narrow bill" when he presented it on the Assembly floor. It passed without debate on a 43-16, mainly party-line vote and now heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom.
