Exempting newspapers from gig bill may lead to opt-outs

In the waning moments of the legislature session, the state legislature passed Assembly Bill 170 early Saturday morning, giving newspapers a one-year extension to comply with the sweeping changes brought on by AB 5's reclassification of independent contractors to employees.
