State Bar fees increase bill heads to governor

Gov. Gavin Newsom is expected to sign Senate Bill 176, a bill that would increase fees lawyers must pay to fund the State Bar, the first such hike in more than 20 years.

Gov. Gavin Newsom is expected to sign Senate Bill 176, which would increase fees lawyers must pay to fund the State Bar for the first time in more than 20 years.

The bill, passed by the Legislature Sept. 11, would allow the bar’s board to raise the annual active license fee to $438 for 2020, up from $319 in 2019. That would bring total 2020 fees up to $544 from $430 in 2019.
