Asylum seekers must have access to counsel during immigration interviews, judge says
A federal judge in San Diego has ruled immigration authorities cannot block asylum seekers from consulting with counsel before or during non-refoulement interviews during immigration proceedings.




Immigration authorities cannot block asylum seekers from consulting with counsel before or during non-refoulement interviews, a U.S. judge in San Diego ruled.
Judge Dana M. Sabraw said in temporary restraining order filed Monday that immigration authorities "may not conduct Petitioners' non-refoulement interviews without first affording them access to their retained counsel both before and during any such interview."
