Assembly passes bill presuming Covid-19 caused physical property damage, placing burden on insurers

Assembly Bill 1552 would directly answer one of the central questions being posed in the multi-billion dollar business interruption litigation currently sweeping the country: Does the coronavirus and related government shutdowns constitute a physical harm or loss?

A bill that attempts to eliminate one of the insurance industry's strongest arguments for denying COVID-19-related business interruption coverage during the pandemic passed the Assembly and has a month to pass the state Senate, and then be presented to the governor to be signed into law as an emergency measure.
