Avenatti begins his defense case trying to discredit one of his earliest accuser

As he has throughout the trial, suspended attorney Michael J. Avenatti, who is representing himself, tried to show that the clients did not understand their agreements and that favors he did for them were actually services for which he charged.

Michael Avenatti began putting on his defense against client embezzlement charges Tuesday, spending much of the day trying to discredit one of his earliest accusers who said he never received $1.6 million owed from the settlement of an intellectual property dispute.
